Chocolate cake and strawberries

Strawberries are not really in season yet. I know. I know. Anyway. There are some things I cannot say no. Strawberries are one of them. Is there anything you can say no to? So suck it up. If you don’t want to prepare this recipe now, wait until the strawberries come into season. It’s not like this recipe is going anywhere once its published 😉


  • 250g butter
  • 250g sugar
  • 2 pinches of salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 1dl milk
  • 60g cocoa powder
  • 40g chocolate powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 200g flour
  • 50g ground almonds
  • cream cheese
  • butter
  • icing sugar
  • vanilla paste
  • strawberries



  1. cream the sugar and the butter, add the salt, and the eggs one at the time;
  2. add the mixture of cocoa, flour, chocolate, baking powder and almonds, 1/3 at the time adding half of the milk in between;
  3. pour in a buttered tin and bake at 180 °C for about 50 minutes;
  4. leave it to cool on a rack for 10 minutes, open the form and let cool completely
  5. cut in half, spread with cream cheese and add a layer of strawberries;
  6. cover with the second half of the cake;
  7. prepare the frosting with butter, icing sugar, cream cheese, vanilla paste and a little pinch of salt and some coloring gel;
  8. crumb coat the cake, put in the fridge to set and add another layer of frosting;
  9. decorate with some whipped cream and some more strawberries.
