Chocolate cake with ganache

Chocolate cake with ganache

What a day! A double birthday party. A lot of half-growns invited and me. Have to prepare cakes. Have to prepare a lot of cakes. I decide on two. In the end, the plan hasn’t  exactly worked out as intended, but it was totally good. (Minus my aking bones the next two days, but hey… breathe and go on I say)…

  • 190g sugar
  • 200g flour
  • 150ml milk
  • 50g butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 60g cocoa
  • salt
  • baking power
  • 100g dark chocolate
  • 300g cream
  • butter
  • icing sugar
  • vanilla aroma
  • milk

  1. I know it’s the usual cake, but why change a winning horse? Plus this recipe I can do blind and I’m sure happy if there is something that can work out without putting too much tought into it, now is there? so: mix the wet and the dry ingredients separately, put them together and pour them into a buttered and lined 20cm round cake form and bake at 180 °C until ready, take out and leave to cool for 10 minutes and after that take out of the form to cool completely;
  2. prepare the ganache (this you can also do a day ahead actually… I could put this at n.1 of the list….) by putting the chocolate and the cream into a microwave viable container and givin it 1 minute blasts and stirring it for 30 secs in between, let cool completely;
  3. prepare the buttercream mixint 100g of butter with 300g of icing sugar and adding aroma and milk until you’ve reached your desired consistency;
  4. slice the cake and spread the ganache;
  5. cover the cake with a crumbcoat of buttercream, roll out the fondant and cover the cake;
  6. use some buttercream to do the last decorations… (man! the grass was a tough job!!! I almost blasted the piping bag).
