Chocolate cupcakes with cocoa-espresso frosting

Back to baking again. Hell! May is a month with so many birthdays my sugar levels are looking down on the top of Mount Everest…. So, hopefully this is my second last sweet post of this month. I did a similar recipe some time ago, but these cupcakes turned to be better… So I’ll post’em 😉


  • 200g flour
  • 190g sugar
  • 60g cocoa
  • 50g butter
  • 150ml milk
  • 2 eggs
  • salt
  • baking powder
  • 250g butter
  • 400g icing sugar
  • espresso
  • cocoa powder


  1. mix the dry and the wet ingredients separately as usual, and then combine and bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes at 180 °C;
  2. prepare the frosting by beating the butter for 5 minutes, adding one cup at a time the sifted icing sugar and beating for 2 minutes on full speed each time;
  3. at about 3/4 of the sugar in, add the espresso and the cocoa powder (just a spoon or so) and finish adding the icing sugar;
  4. swirl-practice time! and add the sprinkles as finishing touch.
